Improvements to Impey Close Play Area and Open Space
Braunstone Town is currently working on proposals for improvement work to Impey Close playground and surrounding open space at Thorpe Astley. The Town Council intends to update and replace existing play equipment and safety surfaces and repair footpaths in the immediate area of the playground.
The Council is taking steps to embed climate and environmental awareness in our decision making and actions. The Council aims to play our part in supporting the community to do the same. Find out more on our dedicated Responding to Climate Change page.
Improvements to Cycling and Walking Routes
Find out about proposed new connections and improvements to make it safer to walk and cycle in and between Braunstone Town, Meridian and Thorpe Astley, including connectivity to New Lubbesthore and the Great Central Way and Leicester City Centre. Proposed Extenstion to Conservation Area
Braunstone Town Council, in partnership with Blaby District Council, have proposed that the area of Braunstone Village to the south of Braunstone Lane/Main Street (i.e. within the administrative area of Braunstone Town) be considered for designation as a Conservation Area to coincide with the already designated Conservation Area of Braunstone Village on the northern side of Braunstone Lane/Main Street (which falls within the administrative area of Leicester City).
Blaby District Council is consulting on the proposals and want to hear the views of residents, community groups, businesses and others with an interest in the area. Deadline for consultation responses is 16th July 2024.

Shakespeare Park Improvements
Details and project updates on our ambitious proposals to make improvements to the sporting, recreation and play facilities at Shakespeare Park, off Avon Road, Braunstone Town.
The proposals include:
- a new multi-sports Clubhouse (completed)
- extension and improvements to the existing Car Park (completed)
- improvements to the play equipment and safety surfaces, including installation of sensory play equipment (due Summer 2023)
- improvements to the Tennis Courts (completed)

Braunstone Civic Centre - Facilities Improvements
Details of our refurbishment to the Civic Centre toilets, including our new changing places toilet, and the creation of a kitchen facility to enable the Civic Community Lounge to provide cafe services.
