Sexual and General Harassment Policy & Procedure – interim version and consultation

Sexual and General Harassment Policy & Procedure – interim version and consultation

Sexual and General Harassment Policy Procedure interim version and consultation BANNER

New legislation places greater responsibilities and legal requirements on all Employers, to take proactive steps to prevent Sexual Harassment at work.

Employers are required to take steps to demonstrate that they are preventing the problem. This doesn’t simply mean having an up-to-date Policy and Procedure, but actively taking steps to reduce the risk of harassment.   However, the starting point is to ensure that an Organisation’s procedures are fit for purpose.

It is important to ensure that procedures, and the way that they are implemented, are appropriate to the size of the organisation and its resources. There is no point in developing elaborate procedures that are simply unworkable. There are no particular criteria or minimum standards for Organisations when implementing their anti-harassment procedures. They must be practical and, most importantly, workable for the size of the organisation.  Both ACAS and the Equality and Human Rights Commission have issued guidance to assist organisations to develop both practical and workable policies.

Braunstone Town Council’s Interim Sexual & General Harassment Policy & Procedure was adopted by Policy & Resources Committee on 7th November 2024.   The Interim Sexual & General Harassment Policy & Procedure is both implemented on an interim basis (with immediate effect) and is subject to consultation prior to final consideration and adoption at the next scheduled meeting of Policy & Resources Committee on 16th January 2025.

Comments and suggestions are being invited to ensure that the Policy & Procedure will be practical and fit for purpose. The consultation is open to anyone who wishes to comment.

The deadline for consultation comments is 9am on Monday 6th January 2025.

You may make comments in writing to the Chief Executive & Town Clerk, Braunstone Town Council, Braunstone Civic Centre, Kingsway, Braunstone Town, LEICESTER, LE3 2PP or by email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

The post consultation version of the Sexual and General Harassment Policy & Procedure will be submitted to Policy & Resources Committee on 16th January 2025 for consideration and adoption.

Mossdale Meadows Flood Alleviation Work Consultation

Mossdale Meadows Flood Alleviation Work Consultation

Mossdale Meadows flood alleviation work

The Town Council has been looking to undertake flood alleviation work to Mossdale Meadows due to issues in several areas with flooding.

Originally the Town Council was proposing to include all the following work:

  1. To remove existing vehicular culvert bridge over brook and to replace vehicular culvert bridge with single box culvert including raising the stone turning area by the bridge
  2. Undertake works to the brook banks
  3. Drainage work to the entrance of Mossdale Meadows car park to drain water from the car park into the brook as the car park entrance was prone to frequent flooding that was raised during the Walking & Cycling route construction
  4. Resurfacing of Mossdale Meadows car park with tarmac and repair of broken kerbstones and installing suitable fencing between car park kerb edge and brook
  5. Inclusion of drainage channels down the Lubbesthorpe bridle path adjacent to the pavilion building to alleviate flooding issues in the workshop

However, due to the costs received to undertake all this, the Town Council decided to reduce the scope of the work to undertake in order of urgent priority as follows:

Vehicular Culvert Bridge

High Priority

Drainage repair work to car park entrance

High Priority

Work to brook bank

Medium Priority

Drainage work down Lubbesthorpe Bridle Path

Medium Priority

Tarmac and work to car park surface

Low Priority

The two high priority works as shown in the table above have been approved by the Policy & Resources committee on 12th September, to be undertaken, subject to funding.

The work has been reduced considerably due to the initial costs we received to do the full works we wanted to do.

Now we want to hear from you!

Does the proposed Flood Alleviation work need undertaking?

Should the Town Council be undertaking this Flood Alleviation work at this time?

Do you agree with the priority order of the work to be undertaken?
