Christmas Message from Braunstone Town Mayor 2022 - 05/12/2022

NEW PHOTO 31 08

As Town Mayor I am delighted to send Christmas greetings to all residents for 2022.

I began my year as Town Mayor attending events in the community to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, the sense of celebration at such an extraordinary   achievement by a very special lady will remain in our hearts and minds for years to come. Therefore, it was with great sadness that we received the news on 8th September that Her Majesty had passed away. In this Platinum Jubilee year, the Town Council will be planting trees this winter as part of the national Queen’s Canopy initiative. This important project will now take on a new meaning as well as acting as a permanent and lasting tribute in our community to our late Queen for the decades to come.

It has been a pleasure to host our community events. The weather was just right for the Town’s Summer Fete in August and many residents seemed to enjoy the day. Similarly, I was able to host “Apple Day” at the Community Orchard in October when we had good  weather, a lot of activities and it was lovely to see the children enjoying picking apples and making apple juice.

Our annual Programme of Events is underway. The Diwali Celebrations in October was well supported by over 100 people. These events provide an opportunity for us to share what is good about our community and our community spirit, as well as raising vital funds to help support our community groups.

I am personally grateful to the organisations who put on these events since the programme also enables funds to be raised for my chosen charity, Rainbows Children’s Hospice. We think especially at this time of year of the children and families supported by the Hospice as they make the most of every precious moment. Thank you to everyone who has supported and plan to support these events.

All that remains is for me to wish you a happy and joyous Christmas and a healthy and prosperous 2023.

Cllr. Satindra Sangha, Braunstone Town Mayor.

🌳 The Queen's Green Canopy 🌳

Braunstone Town Council is taking part in the Queens Green Canopy Scheme. This scheme encourages communities and organisations to plant trees to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

As a part of the scheme the Town Council has begun planting a selection of trees in Braunstone Town and Thorpe Astley. Our Town Mayor had the privilege of planting the very first tree within the scheme at Thorpe Astley Community Centre.

NOTICES GREEN CANOPY

'The Queen’s Green Canopy is proud to be creating a living legacy with over a million trees planted in Her Majesty’s name across the nation during the first planting season, October 2021 to March 2022. As a nationwide initiative created to mark the Platinum Jubilee, the QGC was due to conclude in December – the end of the Jubilee year. However, as the official tree planting season in the United Kingdom is from October to March, the initiative will now be extended to include the full tree planting season, beginning in October 2022 and concluding in March 2023. The extension of the QGC initiative will build on this legacy and serve as a lasting tribute to Her Majesty’s extraordinary service to her country and her people.' - Taken from the Queen's Green Canopy Website.
